Solving Your Horse Issues
Do you love your horse, but…
The truth is that no two horses are the same. Each of them have their own quirks, likes, dislikes and behaviours. Some of these quirks are completely loveable and come in handy when we are dealing with them. Others can become really problematic.
There is a tendency with horses to have a problem, and then be left do determine for ourselves what the solution is. So if we have an issue with our training, we call our coach. If we have a lameness issue then we call a vet or a farrier. If we think our horse is sore, but not actually lame then maybe we call a bodyworker. It means that essentially we have to know what we don’t know… because if we knew how to fix the problem we are having, we would have done it by now.
We also tend to go to professionals who have one arrow in their quiver. So they look at the horse through their particular lens of experience but may have blindspots around others.
What if you could have someone look at your horse’s issue from multiple perspectives and modalities simultaneously?
Through the lens of training, riding, bodywork, equine psychology, equine emotion, horse-human connection, biomechanics and many other lenses.
Do you want a solution that not only fixes the problem, but does so in a way that actually addresses the cause. One that allows your horse to be happier and healthier, rather than sticking a bandaid on the immediate issue to the detriment of your horse.
If that sounds ideal, your next step is simple. Fill in the form below and I will e-mail you back 3-5 possible causes and solutions for the problems you are having. While this is something I do professionally in consultation, this form, and the solutions I will provide are done free of charge. Let’s get you started on the road to recovery and success.
Does your horse:
Not want to load onto the float or truck
Refuse jumps
Walk over the top of you when leading
Not want to go forward
Get tense in new environments
Become “fizzy” and then become unable to calm back down
Spook or shy
Want to get fast and “run” when riding
Not want to be caught
Buck, rear, pigroot, spin
Not put on muscle despite all your good work
Not seem to be “on your page”
Any other thing that nobody seems to be able to solve.
Does your horse have an issue that makes others suggest that you just need to “get up him” or bully him into better behaviour? Do you want to find a solution that is in the best interests of both of you and actually improves your relationship, rather than shutting down your horse’s voice?
How can I help?
I have gone through a life of horses in so many different ways. I have had horses that have challenged me, made me cry, been my best friends and have been the most rewarding beings in my life.
I have been a groom for over a decade in professional yards ranging from eventing, to dressage, to polo, to racing, to jumping, to agistment and pleasure. I came through the ranks of pony club on a series of horses, from the quiet schoolmaster, to my first eventer who instructors felt was completely mad, to the horse that ended up being my top level horse. I have been a riding coach for over 14 years, coaching riders from complete beginners to those cracking into the FEI levels. I have ridden endurance horses, eventers, jumpers, dressage horses, pleasure horses, polo ponies. I have started at a riding school and made my way all the way to 5***** eventing and grand prix showjumping on a horse I trained myself.
I have taken horses off the track, I have started horses under saddle, I’ve taken on those horses that nobody else wanted to touch, and I’ve had to learn, and grow, and be creative in my approaches.
Along the way I’ve become qualified as a human chiropractor, I’ve learned equine bodywork, craniosacral therapy, Reiki. I’ve learned how to do my own hoof trimming. I’ve studied the research coming out of equitation science with regards to training, welfare and management. I’ve managed horses with soundness issues, I’ve kept my top level horse sound at the age of 20 while still competing at the top levels having started his life as a racehorse with over 65 race starts.
I love to learn. My favourite thing in the world is to view a situation from as many perspectives as possible, but all of these from the perspective of the best outcome for the horse and their human. If I don’t have an answer, I love nothing more than learning more about it, or referring to those professionals who do have the answer.
I am offering you my years of very diverse experience, to see if we can come up with some novel solutions that touch on multiple areas… that just might be that missing piece you’ve been searching for.
